Butcher’s shops beef up sales figures

butchery chain Crawshaw Group said sales and margin were particularly strong in January and it now expects profits for the year to January 31 to be further ahead of current market expectations.

This follows what the Rotherham-based group described as “an excellent Christmas trading period” and comes on top of an announcement in January that profits would be materially ahead of expectations.

The company said the strong growth has continued into the new financial year and its plans to open additional shops are progressing well. It expects to open a new high street store towards the end of this month.

Analyst John Cummins at WH Ireland said: “Following on from the trading update released on January 6, Crawshaw Group has released another positive update.

“As a result of a stronger than previously expected sales and margin performance in the final few weeks of the year to January 2014, pre-tax profit for the year is now expected to be ahead of our revised expectations. This trend is reported to have continued into the new financial year.”
