Call for riders to get on their bikes for charity

The Yorkshire Post is supporting a charity cycling event which will help to save lives in remote parts of Yorkshire. National property consultancy Carter Jonas, together with sporting event organiser Breathingspace Live will be holding Yorkshire’s second most highly anticipated cycling event of 2014.

As the world’s sporting media turns to Yorkshire this July for the Grand Départ of the Tour de France, Carter Jonas is signing up cycling enthusiasts around the country to take part in its own version of the famous French event; the Yorkshire Pedalthon, which will raise funds for Yorkshire Air Ambulance and public transport charity Sustrans. The Pedalthon is being supported by media partner the Yorkshire Post.

The event will take place on Thursday, May 22, and riders will have the choice to complete either the 80-mile Yorkshire Challenge or the 40-mile Yorkshire Scenic route. Both circular routes will start and finish at Ripley Castle in North Yorkshire, and pass through the market town of Masham where the Yorkshire Challenge riders will branch off and head into the Yorkshire Dales to attempt a steep climb to the top of Kidstones Pass.

Gary Verity, the chief executive, of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: “The Carter Jonas Pedalthon is exactly the kind of unique event I was hoping for, and I wish it every success.” The Pedalthon is open to both individuals and corporate teams, with individual entry costing £150 and teams of four costing £500 each.
