Call to work together to help young get skills

ECONOMIC growth won’t solve the youth unemployment crisis on its own, according to the head of the CBI.

John Cridland, the CBI Director-General, will urge businesses and Government to work together to give people the skills and opportunities they need to get jobs at today’s CBI Action for Jobs summit.

The summit, which is due to take place at the Royal Society in London, has attracted a guest list which includes the Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg.

Mr Cridland said: “Today’s young people are entering a complex world, and are making choices from the age of 13 that will define what they will be able to do with their lives.” The CBI is calling on the Government to align school funding with employ- ment.

The CBI also wants the Government to take steps to boost links between schools and businesses, and make work experience a statutory right for 14 to 16-year- olds.
