Campaign call for traders to work together to raise county town’s profile

RETAILERS and businesses in and around North Yorkshire’s county town are being invited to an open meeting aimed at increasing collaboration.

Northallerton’s chamber of trade has been dormant for more than six years, leaving no unified voice for traders and others with an interest in the commercial viability of the town, said campaigner Gareth Dant.

Without a formal means of communicating effectively even between High Street neighbours – never mind across the town’s other trading areas – calls have been made in recent weeks for more collaboration.

With this in mind, an open meeting will be held to discuss the issue in Northallerton Town Hall at 6pm on Thursday, October 25.

Organiser Mr Dant, who runs a PR company from offices in the town, said: “We have a wonderful town with many great things to be proud of and shout about, but times are hard – and getting harder.

“We can’t just sit back and wait for someone else to make that noise on our behalf.”

Mr Dant said he had discussed the issue with political representatives, retailers and other business people across the town.
