Car group expands with city dealership

A FAMILY motor group is expanding with the opening of a new dealership in Yorkshire – its 12th in the region.

Harratts, which will open its new Peugeot dealership in June on Scott Hall Road, Leeds, has taken over the territory of Robins & Day Horsforth and Evans Halshaw.

The move comes six months after it opened a new dealership in Wakefield and recently announced a 175,000 investment in staff training.

The site in Leeds will be one of the largest yet operated by the motor group and is a strategic move for the family-owned company which aims to capitalise on previously untapped markets in the city.

Staff members at Robins & Day Horsforth have been offered positions at Harratts Peugeot Leeds, with further jobs creation also mooted for the future.

Terry Bramley, who also oversees Harratts Peugeot Barnsley, will head up the dealership as general manager.

Managing director Shaun Harratt said: "We already have a very successful Peugeot dealership in Barnsley so it is a natural progression for us to take a city centre site in Leeds."

He added: "It has been a fantastic start to the year and this latest expansion is further proof that we are not only defying the downturn, but we are growing strongly."

Harratts Motor Group now operates 12 dealerships across Yorkshire, in Leeds, Sheffield, Huddersfield, Wakefield, Barnsley and Pontefract, selling Honda, Mitsubishi, Volvo, Renault, Peugeot and Nissan.
