Careers day offers new jobs at hotel near Whitby

It’s all change behind the scenes at Raithwaite Sandsend Hotel – ushering in a whole new chapter, and a variety of fresh opportunities right here in North Yorkshire.

Your chance to work alongside a Masterchef semi-finalist as Raithwaite Sandsend Hotel launches a major recruitment drive.

With a forward-thinking approach to sustainability, refreshed interiors, a new senior food team and exciting environmental projects in the gardens, the hotel is on the look-out for the best new talent to join the growing team and its new way of working.

Helping to support career opportunities, the hotel is hosting a careers day on September 15 from 10am-noon and 6pm-8pm, offering the opportunity to come and have a look around the hotel and experience first-hand the improved facilities, the new-look interiors and to get a taste of the impressive new culinary offering, led by head chef Ryan Osborne, whilst learning more about the enhanced employee benefits and available roles.

Several new initiatives have been introduced to better support career development and progression, including skilled on-site training, a mentoring programme to help new team recruits feel right at home and a variety of new wellness benefits to support a greater work-life balance.

Father and son duo, Toby and Max Hunter, who took over the operations of Raithwaite in the spring of 2021, are spearheading the hotel’s new direction - totally reimagining the guest and employee experience - alongside Toby’s other son, Ollie Hunter, who’s heading up the impressive new sustainability commitments and ambitious projects.

In addition to his role as the Raithwaite Estate’s food, drink and sustainability director, Ollie’s also a MasterChef semi-finalist, a successful food author and the proprietor of the UK’s most sustainable pub, The Wheatsheaf Chilton Foliat.

Ryan Osborne has also recently joined the Raithwaite family, as the newly appointed head chef with an esteemed reputation and passion for provenance and local produce – having previously led kitchens at the respected Greens of Whitby and at The Star Inn The Harbour, under esteemed Michelin star chef Andrew Pern.

Ollie says: “Great hospitality is something we’ve all missed so wholeheartedly during the pandemic, so it’s with great optimism that we’re getting ready to welcome the next generation of hospitality superstars to come and join the Raithwaite family.

“We’re so excited about all the hotel’s new developments, but particularly the sustainability work and our enhanced team benefits, helping to take better care of the planet and our people.”

The family business has already instigated lots of positive change, such as working with leading local suppliers to deliver the best fresh and seasonal produce from within 30 miles of the hotel, with the team committing to be fully organic and working towards zero waste by 2022.

Food and drink are central to both the Raithwaite experience, and sustainability is at its core; a new no-dig garden is underway and a pioneering new forest garden, using regenerative farming practises is planned for the autumn.

The heritage estate and new-look hotel sits near the long sweep of Sandsend beach and on the edge of the North Yorkshire moors. The unique positioning between the natural surroundings of the sea and the moors has hugely impacted the new sustainable approach to how the hotel is run – and shaped new roles and ideas for team development.
