chairman in rescue mission

Martin Allison likes life in the fast lane. As chairman of the British Bobsleigh and Skeleton Association, he has been responsible for rescuing the organisation from the brink of collapse.

He said when appointed in 2008, the association was in even worse financial trouble than other winter sports bodies. It had no income, no accounts and no sponsor. Mr Allison, a former banker, set about winning public grants and private sponsorship and paying creditors before rebuilding the coaching staff. That included signing Britannia Rescue as the organisation’s main sponsor.

Mr Allison recently hosted a talk at Leeds Met – Cool Lessons from Sport to Business – where he drew parallels between business and Olympian performance.
