Chamber to hear the latest on countdown to the Grand Depart

GARY Verity, the chief executive of tourism body Welcome to Yorkshire, is due to provide an update on plans for the Tour de France next summer at an upcoming meeting of Harrogate Chamber of Trade & Commerce.

Mr Verity will be at the Chamber’s meeting at Rudding Park on September 9 to explain in more detail what the 2014 Grand Depart will mean for businesses and individuals across the Harrogate district.

Brian Dunsby, chief executive of Harrogate Chamber, said: “There is growing interest in next year’s Tour de France and our September meeting will be the first chance many business people have to hear details about what is being planned directly from the head of the organisation which brought the Grand Depart to Yorkshire.” The evening’s second speaker will be Angela Harris, the project director of the new tourism organisation, Visit Harrogate.

She said: “The opportunity for businesses to benefit from the Tour de France starts now and will continue for at least a year beyond.

“The challenge for businesses across the Harrogate District is to ensure they are best positioned to take advantage of that opportunity in relation to both their ‘offer’ and their marketing.”

The Chamber’s September meeting begins with informal networking and refreshments from 5.30pm, followed by the presentations from 6.15pm. A Chamber business meeting from 7.30pm until 8pm will follow.

This meeting for business owners and managers is free to Chamber members and to non-members attending for the first time. For non-members who have been to a previous meeting, there is a £10 charge.
