Chief executive appointed for Tunstall Healthcare

TUNSTALL Healthcare Group, a Yorkshire-based company that helps millions of vulnerable people to live independently, has appointed Gil Baldwin as its new chief executive.

He replaces James Buckley, who stepped down in December last year after five years as chief executive.

Private equity firm Charterhouse Capital Partners bought the firm in March 2008 for 514m. Mr Buckley remains a "significant" investor in the company.

Tunstall, which is based in Whitley Bridge, near Selby, and has 1,200 staff globally, provides an early warning system that tells friends and carers if an elderly person has collapsed or is in danger.

Mr Baldwin joins Tunstall from insurance company Aviva, where he was managing director of the company's healthcare business, Aviva Health for four years.

Malcolm Miller, the chairman of Tunstall, said: "Gil has a proven track record in the healthcare industry from his successful time with Aviva Health. He has the right mix of skills to grow our business and take advantage of the many new opportunities that present themselves in the market."

Mr Baldwin said: "With governments around the world looking at ways to deliver efficiencies while enhancing quality of care, this is an exciting time for Tunstall's high-quality, cost- effective care solutions."

Mr Baldwin paid tribute to Mr Buckley, adding: "James did a fantastic job. We all recognise what James did for the company."
