Chief executive buys out translation operation

THE chief executive of a translation and interpreting company plans to grow the business after completing a buyout.

Carolyn Burgess has acquired a controlling share in Language is Everything and aims to relaunch the business later this month.

Ms Burgess, who has headed the Howden and Hull-based translation and interpreting company since 1995, completed the buyout for an undisclosed sum, after securing finance through the Co-operative Bank and a private investor. Hull chartered accountants Smailes Goldie brokered the deal.

Founded in 1992 in Slough, Language is Everything was incorporated in 1997 and moved its operations to Howden in 2001. It became a partner of World Trade Centre Hull & Humber in 2008 and now runs its private sector division from the centre in Queen Street, Hull. It employs 15 staff in Yorkshire and has 3,000 linguists.

With a turnover of more than 1.5m, the company has a number of public sector contracts, including the NHS, and the London boroughs of Newham and Hillingdon, for which it provides face-to-face and telephone interpreting. It also has a growing private sector client base.
