Chinese snap up yarn firm machinery

A YORKSHIRE mill, which was once home to one of the UK's major yarn manufacturing and dying companies, has been bought by a carpet maker after the previous owner went into administration

Calder Bank Mills, in Dewsbury, was bought by Cleckheaton-based Westex Carpets for an undisclosed sum.

The building had been on the market since July 2009 when S Lyles Sons and Co, which had operated in Dewsbury since 1912, went into administration.

Chartered surveyors Eddisons handled the sale on behalf of administrators BDO and also the disposal of all plant and machinery at the premises comprising of carpet yarn carding, spinning, twisting, winding and dyeing plant.

In a separate deal, the entire plant was bought by China-based Hangzhou Fuxing Group, which supplies recycling resources and textile products, for close to 2m. It used 115 containers to ship it to the Far East.

Jim Asquith, director of machinery and assets at Eddisons, said: "The plant and machinery generated huge interest and we had visitors to the site from all over the world, many of whom had been targeted through our electronic database."

It is understood the new owners will continue to use the dye-house facilities on site.
