“I believe it is also an important way to raise the profile of our city region, particularly its position as an internationally renowned, high-value manufacturing location.”

The university said manufacturers including Boeing, Airbus, Rolls-Royce, BAE Systems and Spirit AeroSystems have committed to support the project, dubbed Factory 2050.

Sheffield’s delegation hopes to promote key investment opportunities to the 20,000 people expected to attend the event in Cannes, including global investors, developers, agents, journalists, end users and professional advisers.

City leaders will be hoping to attract investors and developers to take on the stalled Sevenstone retail project in the city centre.

They will also be promoting the Gateway project to connect the motorway network with Robin Hood Airport.

Regeneration agency Counter Context has been appointed to lead the project management and communication for the exhibition.

Simon Collingwood, director, said, “MIPIM is the perfect moment to engage with international investors in a conversation about the competitive advantages of the Sheffield City Region.
