Clyde hits a rich seam with £1.4m mining contract

ENGINEER Clyde Process Solutions has won a £1.4m order with one of the world's largest mining companies, Anglo American.

The Doncaster-based business will supply a complete pneumatic conveying system for Anglo American's nickel operation, which is based in Brazil.

Anglo American operates a portfolio of mining businesses spanning metals and minerals.

Alex Stewart, chief executive of Clyde Process Solutions, said: "We are delighted to have secured this order from Anglo American, a company that has been a tremendous customer of ours in recent years across the precious metals market.

"Our South American subsidiary has established a strong relationship with Anglo American's team in Brazil and we look forward to delivering a value-adding solution for their nickel operation."

He said that the order was secured at competitive levels of contribution and is in line with management expectations.

The group is seeing an increase in demand as global economies return to growth.

"We have seen a significant upturn in enquiries across all our key customer markets and geographical territories and we continue to work closely with these prospects in an effort to convert these opportunities into orders during this financial year," said Mr Stewart.

Earlier this week Clyde won a 1m contract with the leading US producer of PVC to provide systems for its plant in Texas.

The group, which specialises in pneumatic processing systems for industries including food and mining, will provide the US customer with a series of vacuum unloading systems and pneumatic conveying systems to handle PVC resin.

In a bid to expand its petrochemicals business, an industry that could deliver significant future growth, the group also announced the appointment of Jan van Bakergem as Director of Petrochemicals.

Mr van Bakergem has held a number of senior management positions in the petrochemicals market and the group said he will bring significant knowledge and expertise.

He will lead the development of a global petrochemicals strategy based from the group's North American operations.

Mr Stewart said: "We have identified the petrochemicals market as one that could deliver significant growth in the coming years. Jan is an extremely experienced and successful senior executive in the petrochemicals market."
