Conference time while watching the wildlife

A SAFARI experience is not usually included when booking a conference venue but Yorkshire Wildlife Park has changed all that with a new £1.2m events centre overlooking lions, tigers and leopards.

The Outlook building, which will be officially opened next Tuesday, features two conference rooms as well as a 6,458 sq ft Monkey Playhouse play area and cafe.

It is the first time that conference facilities have been available at the park, which is now in its fifth year of business.

The larger Outlook Suite has a capacity of 140 and overlooks Lion Country, the Land of the Tiger and Leopard Heights.

The Gallery Suite, which caters for up to 100 delegates, backs on to a glass viewing window that overlooks an outdoor enclosure with 17 baboons.

A park spokeswoman said: “The UK’s business tourism market is currently worth over £36bn per annum – this is a growing market and we know that we have a really unique product to offer to business customers.

“Where else can you hold your meeting with a view over African plains, take part in team building next door to a troop of baboons or host a drinks reception in Caramba Gardens, our own slice of South America in Yorkshire?”

Voted Yorkshire’s Most Magnificent Attraction 2012, Yorkshire Wildlife Park has received a million visitors since it opened five years ago.

Visitors who walk through the park can see Lion Country, which is home to the pride of lions rescued from a run-down zoo in Romania.

They now live in the extensive reserve with a lake and waterfalls.

Endangered Amur tigers Vladimir and Sayan roam in Land of the Tiger.

Meanwhile, three Amur leopards, the most endangered big cat on the planet, live in Leopard Heights – an enclosure with an eight-metre tall viewing tower and 10-metre long glass viewing window.
