Confidence is starting to take hold in sector

What are the prospects for the property sector in Yorkshire?

The sector is gradually improving, this can be seen by the completion of major schemes in the region such as Trinity Leeds and the Leeds Arena. Confidence in the Yorkshire property market is starting to increase and we should build upon the success of these schemes.

What is the best project you have ever been involved in?

For a number of years I co-ordinated the Tawny Portfolio – a mix of industrial and office properties predominantly in Yorkshire – it was a very varied and exciting role and was a real partnership between the client and the managing agent. I become involved in a number of different asset management strategies and dealt with some very interesting tenants facing a very difficult financial climate.

For many reasons the Magna Science Adventure Centre, the former steel factory, is a fascinating building to explore and is a good example of how the use of a building can alter dramatically over its life cycle.

If you could change one thing to improve the property industry in this region, what would it be?

Empty rates is the hot topic. While the Government is starting to take notice of the property industry not enough is being done to assist owners and occupiers with the costs.

Who do you most admire in the property industry?

I have been lucky to work with and for some very notable people over the past 15 years. It would be difficult to limit this to one person without causing offence!
