Shadow Business Secretary Ed Miliband to appear at The Yorkshire Post Excellence in Business Awards

SHADOW Business Secretary Ed Miliband will outline his vision for the North of England’s green economy when he appears at The Yorkshire Post Excellence in Business Awards.

Mr Miliband, who was leader of the Labour Party from 2010 to 2015, will appear at the online awards ceremony in a recorded interview with Greg Wright, The Yorkshire Post’s deputy business editor.

During the interview, Mr Miliband will talk about the importance of promoting excellence in business and his fears that companies affected by the pandemic are not receiving the support they need to survive.

He will also talk about the importance of creating “green spaces” in the country and investing in the economy of the future.

Mr Wright said: “We are delighted to reveal that Ed Miliband, one of Britain's most influential political figures, will be appearing at The Yorkshire Post Excellence in Business Awards.

“The interview provides a fascinating insight into the Labour Party’s approach to engaging with the business community.

“He is the latest high profile political figure to take part in our awards. Previous speakers have included David Cameron, George Osborne, Nick Clegg, William Hague and Ed Balls.”

Mr Miliband was first elected as the MP for Doncaster North in May 2005. He served as Minister for the Cabinet Office under Gordon Brown’s Labour Government in 2007, and then as Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, overseeing the introduction of the Climate Change Act 2008.

From 2010 to 2015, he served as the leader of the Labour Party in opposition, and has since served as a Commissioner for Shelter’s Social Housing Commission following the Grenfell Tower tragedy, and ran a successful investigation with the BBC into the practices of rent-to-own companies.

As well as his Parliamentary work, Mr Miliband is the co-host of popular current affairs podcast ‘Reasons to be Cheerful’.

The Yorkshire Post Excellence in Business awards will take place on Wednesday November 4 through a digitally streamed event.
