The centre, which will open this summer, is at 38 Stone Gate. The Grade II listed building will undergo extensive internal refurbishment to bring it in line with Trailfinders’ other travel centres.

The firm is committed to having a retail presence, which it said is a critical component of the high standard of service provided by its travel consultants, and demonstrates the company’s confidence in the high street.

Trailfinders said it has a good client base in Yorkshire and now it has found the perfect location to open a centre.

The firm said York is an iconic city, rich in history and beauty, and the new site is a natural progression for the company. It will launch a recruitment drive to attract local talent as well as promote from within the organisation.

Toby Kelly, Trailfinders CEO, said “This is an exciting time for the company. We intend to expand our high street footprint, where we can find the right freeholds, with more scheduled for this year, creating new opportunities for local employees.

"Around 90 per cent of our recruits are graduates who receive exemplary induction and training, perks to indulge in their passion for travel, and a promising career at Trailfinders.”

Trailfinders said it offers everything from chic city breaks to once in a lifetime trips, honeymoons, and everything in between, each a tailor made experience.

The firm was named the UK's best holiday provider 2020 in the Which? Awards.

The company said dedicated travel consultants will make it easy for clients to stay updated with current requirements and restrictions.

All travel booked through the company is protected by Trailfinders’ financial guarantee, which places client funds into a trust account only to be paid out once clients have returned home.

Mike Gooley, Trailfinders founder and executive chairman, said: “Travel is incredibly complex and the likelihood of arrangements not going to plan is higher than ever.

"What we offer above all is reassurance - reassurance that you’ll always have someone at the end of the phone 24/7/365, reassurance that you and your finances are protected and reassurance if you can’t travel today, we’ll ensure you have something even better to look forward to tomorrow.”
