Two in 10 people in Yorkshire would feel safe going back to a pub or bar

A week on from lockdown being eased to allow pubs and restaurants to open it seems many people in Yorkshire still feel it is too soon.

Polling conducted by YouGov showed 63 per cent of people in Yorkshire feel it is too soon for businesses to reopen full stop with only four per cent believing it should have happened earlier.

This figure compares with 53 per cent nationally, suggesting the region is more cautious than most of the country about when things will be safe to go about their business.

The polling was commissioned by SafetyCulture, a platform for workplace safety and efficiency that was founded in Australia but operates in the UK.

Dan Joyce, General Manager EMEA, SafetyCulture, said: “As we move into the next phase of re-opening in Britain, the majority of the public are still unsure about returning to the iconic British pub, local restaurant, hairdressers or museums. “Everywhere is high risk in a pandemic but everyone has the right to expect a safe experience so businesses must prioritise the safety of both their customers and employees right now.

"Transparency around the safety measures businesses have put in place will help ensure both customers and employees feel confident about getting back to work and to socialise, which is crucial to get the British economy up and running again.”
