Contract wins help to boost profits at Mitie

MITIE, the strategic outsourcing company, yesterday revealed that it had achieved an increase in half-year profits and turnover after securing a number of high-profile contract wins.

The FTSE 250 company employs more than 70,000 people across the UK and Europe, of which more than 15,000 are based in the North of Eng- land.

The headline results to September 30 reflected strong revenue and earnings growth, with revenues up 10.5 per cent to £1.04bn and operating profit before other items increasing by 13.3 per cent to £62.3m.

MITIE works on many big contracts in the North, including Lloyds Banking Group and Mersey Care NHS Trust.

The company has secured a three-year £38m contract to provide cleaning and waste services at 1,600 Mitchells & Butlers restaurants throughout the UK

Ruby McGregor-Smith, the chief executive of MITIE Group, said: “The first half of the year has seen strong operational and financial performance for MITIE. We continue to identify new opportunities with both existing and new clients in all of our key markets.

“The successful re-positioning of the business means we are in a stronger and better position than ever to deliver higher growth and maintain strong margins.
