Coronation Street tour to travel the UK

The soap opera’s iconic set will premier at the SECC in Glasgow on August 27 in a purpose-built 2,000 sqm show dome - the biggest of its kind in the UK and will showcase iconic sets, props and costumes from the show.

In its first 18 months since opening in Manchester it has welcomed more than 850,000 visitors to the soap’s original Quay Street sets.

Juliana Delaney, chief executive of Continuum Attractions said: “After we closed the doors to Coronation Street The Tour in December 2015, we recognised a huge unfulfilled demand from elsewhere in the UK. We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to take Corrie on tour to allow more fans to get closer to their favourite television show.”

Coronation Street On Tour will subsequently relocate to Belfast next spring, subject to planning permission.

A spokeswoman for the company said that Belfast and Glasgow were selected due to the high numbers of viewers of the soap in these cities and that other veues were being considered.

“The sets are currently in a warehouse in Manchester,” she said.

“We have a huge show dome which is the size of half a football pitchand has been pupose built by one of the biggest manufacturers in the UK.

“We always had really good feedback from people in Belfast, many told us they had come across to Manchester specifically to see it.”

In addition to The Coronation Street Experience Continuum runs The Real Mary King’s Close in Edinburgh, The Canterbury Tales in Canterbury, Oxford Castle Unlocked in Oxford, York’s Chocolate Story in York, the Emirates Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth and Emmerdale The Tour in Leeds.

It is currently in the latter stages of talks to begin operating tours from the set of Emmerdale in Leeds, with a decision on whether it will be allowed to go ahead pending.
