Corporate law continues to change as businesses look abroad
As a corporate lawyer, the general strategic change in the way Yorkshire businesses are increasing market share by looking at opportunities beyond the shores of the UK has meant advising on a transaction with an international angle has now become a regular occurrence, rather than a novelty. This has brought about new challenges in delivering complex legal advice commercially and efficiently when coordinating a large team of lawyers across the globe.
What law would you like to see changed?
The modifications to the Companies Act in 2006 brought about much needed modernisation to the legislation governing UK companies. However, continuing reform is needed to build on the relaxation in legislation
What is the most exciting work you’ve ever done?

Hide AdA transaction I recently worked on involved meetings in New York, Washington and London in the space of a week with the transaction closing the week after! It was quite intense but very rewarding to close a complex multi-jurisdictional transaction for a great Yorkshire business.
Who in the legal world do you most admire?
My firm’s global chairman, Jim Maiwurm. I am always amazed how many offices he visits and how he seems to remember everyone in our firm by name.
