Council contract ensures success in any language

AA Global Language Services has landed a contract with East Riding of Yorkshire Council, within six months of expanding into a new office in Hull.

The translation and interpreting business will provide translation and interpreting services to the council for the next three years. It follows recent contract wins with Southampton City Council and with Waterloo Housing Group, a Midlands-based company which manages more than 18,000 homes between the Welsh borders and The Wash.

The new contract will be managed from AA Global’s Hull office which opened in March at Hull Marina. The value of the contract will depend on how much or how little the council calls for the firm’s services during the three-year term.

“We were already working in the area with clients such as Hull City Council and the City Health Care Partnership as well as a number of private sector companies,” said Kirk Akdemir, chief executive.

“Business has increased with the result that we have created work for about 100 linguists from the Hull office. We are now looking for more linguists in Hull and we are looking for permanent staff, particularly on the business development side.”

The company provides translation and interpreting services to the public and private sectors. It can call upon the services of more than 4,500 linguists who cover more than 250 languages.

AA Global employs 15 staff at its offices in Hull and Worcester. Turnover this year is projected to be around £1m.
