Creamery lands sole-supplier deal with Morrisons

THE Wensleydale Creamery has signed a deal which will see it become the sole supplier of Bradford-based supermarket chain Morrisons own-label pre-packed blended cheeses.

The creamery, based in Hawes, North Yorkshire, will supply a range of four blended cheeses to Morrisons in a "substantial contract".

They will be sold under Morrisons' own-brand labelling across 425

stores nationwide and will add 1m to the creamery's revenue.

The Wensleydale Creamery, which employs more than 200 people across two sites, will benefit from increased distribution to supermarkets across the country.

The blended cheese market has been an area of growth for the Creamery in the last two years.

This growth was boosted by a 360,000 investment in cutting and packing equipment last year.

David Hartley, the creamery's managing director, said: "This is a substantial amount of business for us and is further testament to our ambition to further secure the growth and future of the creamery.

"This contract brings together two historic businesses that were both founded in Yorkshire. We have secured this contract thanks to The Wensleydale Creamery's ability to create a high-quality product and the blending expertise of our cheese-making master craftsmen."
