Creative companies head to Electric Works

FOUR more companies have moved into Electric Works in Sheffield's Digital Campus, bringing 43 new jobs to the building.

The companies include 3D and animated film-makers Red Star Studio and Brighton-based e-learning firm Kineo, which chose the building for its northern office.

Also new to Electric Works are business consultancy Square 5 – formed following its management buy-out of VEN Management from Yorkshire Forward – and Microsoft partner The CRM Business.

Electric Works manager Louise Jamieson said: "Electric Works is bucking the trend in terms of attracting companies to the high end of the office space market, because we have continued to expand the number, type and size of organisation moving into Electric Works despite the recession.

"There has been a marked shift towards workspace that offers something extra, such as 24/7 access, a high standard of facilities and – most importantly – the ability to collaborate with like-minded teams working in complementary disciplines."

Sheffield City Council bought Electric Works for 13m last year.

The building was completed in 2008 and let to Sheffield City Council by joint developers GMI Property Company and Scarborough Development Group – the partners with Creative Sheffield in developing the overall Sheffield Digital Campus.
