Cummins unveils plan for new site

The plant could be in operation as early as 2016.

The company plans to move its manufacturing operation from the current site on St Andrew’s Road in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, to a new location within a 10-mile radius.

A spokesman stressed that the St Andrew’s Road site would stay open.

Mark Firth, the executive director for product line management and marketing for Cummins Turbo Technologies, said: “We are extremely proud of our 60-year heritage in Huddersfield and believe we now have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to secure the future of the business by fully exploiting market oppor- tunities.

“The new site will enable us to create a centre of excellence at St Andrew’s Road, serving our customers in north west Europe, and ensuring we continue to deliver our high standards of customer service.”

Cummins Turbo Technologies, which is part of the Cummins Components Group, employs more than 1,000 staff across its two Huddersfield sites.

It was founded in Huddersfield in 1952, when it was known as Holset Engineering.

Other technical, sales and manufacturing facilities are based in Brazil, India, the UK, US and China.

Altogether, Cummins Inc has operations in more than 190 countries, 40,000 employees and revenues of $10.8bn.
