David Brown forges partnership in India to meet industry demand

YORKSHIRE gearing firm David Brown has formed a joint venture in India with one of the world’s largest forging companies.

David Brown Systems India said the deal with Bharat Forge would help both companies grow. The new firm was set up through Bharat subsidiary BFIVL and will serve the heavy engineering industry, supplying gearboxes and aftermarket services to sectors like energy, defence, wind, rail and steel.

David Brown Bharat Forge Gear Systems India will be run from Bharat’s current facilities in Pune but executives want to set up a dedicated site for gear box assembly and testing by the middle of next year.

There are also due to be service centres in Bangalore and Kolkata by the end of this year and in Delhi and Hyderabad in 2013.

Jim McColl, chairman of David Brown, said: “We recognise India is a high growth territory for gearing products and services and so we are delighted to have found such a well-respected and prominent partner in BFIVL. This joint venture enables us to develop these high demand and growing industries by providing customer proximity through a local network.”

Baba N Kalyani, managing director of Bharat Forge, part of the Kalyani Group, said: “This is one more step in the direction of reiterating our strong commitment to providing world class technology to the fastest growing core infrastructure market in India.”

Clyde Blowers, which owns David Brown, is a Glasgow based owner of engineering companies which is expanding its presence in renewables. David Brown celebrated its 150th anniversary last year.
