Deadline looms for green awards

BUSINESSES have until tomorrow to enter the Yorkshire Post Environment Awards, the region’s leading celebration of inspirational ‘green’ endeavour.

The annual awards showcase the most innovative and creative ways of contributing to the green agenda.

This year’s keynote speaker is Caroline Flint, the Shadow Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change.

The former minister said: “The awards are a great celebration of all of the businesses, schools, individuals and community groups in Yorkshire that are at the cutting edge of this energy industrial revolution and I’m delighted to be speaking at this year’s event.”

Past winners of the coveted Environmental Business of the Year award, backed by main sponsor CO2Sense, include dairy giant Arla, Bettys & Taylors of Harrogate and Yorkshire Bank.

The categories are: Innovation, sponsored by Yorkshire Water; Community, sponsored by Banks Renewables; Young People’s Award, sponsored by Asda; Countryside, sponsored by Northern Gas Networks; Built environment (projects over £1m), sponsored by Grant Thornton; Green Champion, sponsored by the Yorkshire Post; Built environment (projects under £1m); Manufacturer of the best green product; Best environmental Start-up and Climate Change.
