Deloitte’s call to have a say in annual survey

BUSINESS advisory firm Deloitte has launched its annual survey of UK entrepreneurs and is calling on those in Yorkshire to share their views.

Now in its fifth year, Entrepreneurship UK is a report on the sector, reflecting the current attitudes, performance and objectives of entrepreneurs and their businesses.

Stephen Hall, entrepreneurial business partner at Deloitte in Yorkshire, said: “When we conducted our survey in 2011, over 90 per cent of our respondents anticipated revenue growth in 2012. The results of our 2012 survey will show whether entrepreneurs have been able to buck the gloomy trend of the UK economy and spearhead positive growth in these uncertain times.

“In Yorkshire and the Humber, there were 17,000 start-up businesses in 2010, a rate of 10.2 per cent which is the highest in England outside of London.

“Every business owner’s mind is focussed on the economy, more so than ever with economic headwinds blowing in from Europe. I expect entry into new markets, development of new products and services and forming strategic alliances to be high on the agenda amongst our entrepreneurs. We will be looking closely at the sentiment of business owners from across the UK, and are expecting to hear some good news despite tough market conditions.”

Analysed by Deloitte and the London Business School, the results will be published in early October. This year, Huddersfield entrepreneur James Sommerville, who founded creative agency Attik, will be providing his views on the results.

In March, Mr Sommerville addressed Yorkshire’s entrepreneurs at Deloitte’s Entrepreneurial Business Dinner in Leeds. He started Attik in 1986 with a £2,000 grant from The Prince’s Trust. Over the next 20 years, the small branding and design firm grew from its Yorkshire base to cover the UK, New York, Sydney and Los Angeles.
