Dementia support group moves into Inspire

An organisation that provides support for dementia sufferers has become the latest tenant to move into a business park that is helping to bring jobs and investment to West Yorkshire.

The Memory Tree has established a base at the Inspire Bradford Business Park, which is owned and managed by the Newlands Community Association (NCA)

The social enterprise, which was formed by Dr Elizabeth Milwain and Carol McNab, has taken office space within Inspire’s Enterprise Centre, to give the organisation its first permanent headquarters. Dr Milwain has worked as a lecturer with the Bradford Dementia Group at the University of Bradford.

From its Inspire office, The Memory Tree will organise social groups for people with dementia and their carers.

Dr Milwain and Ms McNab plan to expand The Memory Tree’s volunteer network by working in partnership with local churches.

“Inspire’s community values and environmental credentials really appealed to us, and the location is ideal too,’’ said Dr Milwain. “We think the proximity to the NHS will be very useful in the future.”

Inspire Bradford Business Park is based on a brownfield site close to Eccleshill Community Hospital, in the east of Bradford.

Its two buildings have 18 serviced offices and 14 managed workspaces. The NCA provides activities linked to training and education.

Tony Holdich, the NCA chief executive, said: “Elizabeth has worked hard to build a community-focused organisation and we are delighted to have another tenant that shares our philosophy. The Memory Tree offers an important service to families affected by dementia.”

The NCA is also doing its bit to encourage grassroots entrepreneurs, while protecting the environment.

A collection of eco-friendly workshop spaces have been created at Inspire. The workshops are aimed at small traders, start-ups and independent organisations who are looking for a home.
