Deputy chairman steps down from Datong

THE executive deputy chairman of spy gadgets firm Datong is stepping down after 12 years at the company.

Brian Smith, who led the Leeds-based group through a period of substantial growth and development, will leave his role on May 31 but will remain with the group as a non-executive director.

The company designs, makes and sells covert tracking devices used by law enforcement agencies and security forces across the globe,

Chairman Paul Lever said: "Brian has had an outstanding career with Datong, having joined as sales director in 1998, quickly progressing to chief executive in 1999 before becoming executive deputy chairman in 2009. We would like to thank Brian for his vision, commitment and dedicated leadership over the years. He has been instrumental in making Datong a successful international business with a well earned reputation in the market place.

Mr Smith added: "I am proud to have been associated with this great company. Datong continues to develop outstanding products and services, all of which are underpinned by talented people. The group has an exciting future ahead of it."
