Derwent in launch of student arm

FACILITIES management company Derwent FM has launched a second new division, Derwent Students.

The Harrogate-based company, which launched Derwent Response last November, will operate the new division as a separate brand under the Derwent FM banner to concentrate on the company’s student accommodation contracts.

Its primary focus will be on marketing and lettings – providing “a one-stop shop for campus and direct-let student accommodation”. Derwent Response, meanwhile, focuses on deep cleaning, void repairs, light fabric works, grounds maintenance and window cleaning contracts.

Derwent FM, which was founded in June 2010, now has over 10,000 beds in its portfolio. It has a turnover of £6.5m and 280 employees. The company’s latest contract win is a 249-bed deal at Denton Holme Student Village in Carlisle.

It has also been appointed to manage 1,400 beds at the University of Essex, a 3,000-bed scheme at the University of Hertfordshire, a combined 1,200 beds at Goodricke and Langwith colleges at the University of York; as well as schemes at University of the Arts in London, the Aviva Beach Fund and Aston University.

Martin Corbett, MD, said: “Derwent FM has grown considerably over the last two and a half years.”

He added: “It is a reflection of all the hard work of everyone at the company that we’ve achieved this milestone in a relatively short space of time.”
