Domino's enjoys strong start to 2010

DOMINO'S Pizza today said it had enjoyed a strong start to 2010, despite the heavy snow falls in January.

The company issued financial data relating to the 13 weeks to March 28 2010, in conjunction with its annual general meeting.

System sales for the period were up 17.5 per cent to 118.9m and like-for-like sales for the period in 553 mature stores rose 10.5 per cent.

Sales online for the period were up 52.3 per cent to 25.3m and accounted for 28.8 per cent of UK delivered sales.

The company has opened eight new stores since the beginning of the year bringing it to a total of 616 stores as of March 28.

The company said it was well-positioned to achieve its target of 55 new store openings this year.

Chris Moore, the company's chief executive, said: "We are delighted with our like for like sales performance, which comes despite the snow in the early part of the year forcing many of our stores to temporarily close.

"We face some incredibly tough comparatives in the second half of the year, but we have the people, the product, and the plans to continue to deliver excellent results in the coming months.

"We are pleased with our current performance and trading continues to progress in line with expectations."
