DWF expands north of the border

LAW firm DWF is set to increase its presence in Scotland after revealing plans to join forces with Biggart Baillie.

The firms plan to merge on July 1. It’s the third merger announced by DWF in the last six months.

Biggart Baillie, which has 222 staff and offices in Edinburgh and Glasgow, provides specialist advice in areas such as real estate, retail, energy and infrastructure.

Andrew Leaitherland, the managing partner at DWF, which has 210 staff at its Leeds office, said: “We have ambitious growth plans and are always looking for ways to enhance our offering for clients and strengthen our UK-wide presence.

“Biggart Baillie was keen to continue to expand and provide increased services for its growing client base outside Scotland.”

Altogether, DWF employs around 1,500 staff at its offices in Birmingham, Coventry, Leeds, Liverpool, London, Manchester, Newcastle, Preston and Teesside.

In January, it was revealed that DWF and Cobbetts had ended merger talks because of the uncertain market conditions.
