Econ takes £2m winter gritters order

support services firm Amey has placed a £2m order for more than 60 new gritting vehicles from Ripon-based Econ.

Amey provides highways maintenance services for local councils across the UK, with staff on standby to keep routes open despite snow and ice.

It will use the new vehicles across Birmingham, Bedfordshire and North Lanarkshire over the coming months.

Amey’s Richard Guy said: “We’ve worked with Econ successfully for many years, but our 2011 order for winter gritters is our highest for almost a decade.

“The new vehicles will provide reliability by replacing existing fleet and will help our staff keep thousands of miles of roads clear of snow and ice over the coming months.”

Econ manufactures salt spreaders and road maintenance vehicle bodywork from its base at Boroughbridge Road, Ripon.
