Ellis extends HQ as success story continues

MANUFACTURER Ellis Patents is investing £450,000 in the redevelopment and extension of its North Yorkshire-based headquarters.

The work, which is due for completion in September, will see the cable cleat manufacturer’s office space in Rillington extended by 173 sq m to a total of 415 sq m.

Richard Shaw, managing director of Ellis, which recorded a turnover of £6.5m in its latest financial year, said: “The last financial year was a record for the company, something we have managed to achieve in 15 of the last 18 years.

“In order to maintain this record of success we need to bring in more staff – particularly within product design and development, and export sales – and to bring more staff in we desperately needed more space.”

The business currently employs just over 50 people, most of whom live locally, but it declined to say exactly how many new jobs would be created. Work on site began in April and is being carried out by Malton-based Sleightholme.

The new offices have been designed to minimise the company’s carbon footprint. They will feature sun pipes that maximise natural lighting, energy efficient LED lighting, a heat exchange ventilation system and solar and thermally efficient glazing.

The new offices will provide the capacity to further extend the scope of the firm’s service, both in terms of countries it deals with and its ability to bring new and enhanced products to market, added Mr Shaw.
