Ellis Patents lands big power order

CABLE cleat manufacturer, Ellis Patents, is gearing up for growth after securing a major order, it was revealed yesterday.

The company’s Vulcan trefoil cleats and new FlexiStrap short circuit straps are to be installed in RWE npower’s new power station near Pembroke, in South Wales.

The state-of-the-art 2,000MW combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power station is under construction and is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2012. The Yorkshire company’s products were specified by Irish electrical contractor, Dornan Engineering Services, following presentations given by its UK distributor, ETS Cable Components.

Stephen Crawley, Ellis Patents UK sales manager, said: “Securing the specification for this project was extremely difficult, but ETS once again demonstrated their worth by delivering excellent technical presentations that enabled them to demonstrate the benefits of our products over those named in the original specification.”

Ellis Patents, which is based in Rillington. North Yorkshire, is one of the leading UK businesses in the specialist field of cable cleat manufacturing.

Once complete, Pembroke Power Station will have five generating units, each around 400MW.

They will have the combined ability to generate power for around three and a half million homes.

The plant has created around 90 jobs.
