Energy giant fuels city’s year in the arts spotlight

ENERGY giant BP has been announced as the first major corporate partner for City of Culture in Hull.

The announcement will be formally made at an event at Hull Truck Theatre this morning, which will also launch the branding for Hull 2017.

Peter Mather, Group Regional Vice President, Europe and Head of Country, said: “BP is a major supporter of UK arts and culture with a programme that spans over 40 years. We believe that culture has the power to inspire and innovate, a precious investment for a thriving future.”

All eyes will be on the branding being revealed today.

Creative agency Sheffield-based Jaywing said it would “show Hull in technicolour” and would the reflect the city’s distinctive personality.

Martin Green, Chief Executive of Hull 2017, said: “Our aim is to show people that Hull is a place that inspires and celebrates culture in all of its diverse forms, a place that invites debate about the meaning and nature of culture – a great Northern city that has much to say and is not afraid to say it out loud.”
