Engage names sector stalwart as new non-executive director

ENGAGE Mutual has added Nigel Masters to its board as a non-executive director.

The Harrogate-based friendly society, which provides savings, investment and life insurance products, said it will benefit from Mr Masters’ experience, gained from 38 years of working in the financial sector.

Currently director at NMActuarial, he has held senior roles at a number of financial organisations, including group chief life actuary for Zurich Financial Services, and partner in the actuarial consulting practice at PwC.

Chairman of Engage Mutual, David Robinson, said: “It is a real pleasure to welcome Nigel to the board.

“His experience and insights will be invaluable for Engage Mutual as we embark on the next phase of our development.”

Meanwhile, Leeds-based commercial solicitors Shulmans has recruited a new partner for its corporate finance team.

Christian Peace joins the firm from Lee & Priestley LLP, where he worked his way up the corporate ladder from trainee solicitor to being the youngest partner in the firm.

He brings with him experience in advising on all forms of corporate transactional work, including acquisitions and disposals, venture capital investments, MBOs, MBIs, joint ventures, de-mergers and company restructurings, leading on deals with values of up to £30m.

He has particular expertise in the retail pharmacy sector, having advised on almost 100 pharmacy transactions, and led Lee & Priestley’s pharmacy team.

Andrew Bradley, head of corporate finance, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Christian to the team, not least because of his experience in the healthcare sector, which remains very active.

“Targeting this niche market has proved extremely successful and we anticipate plenty of future activity, particularly as a result of consolidation in the sector.”

Elsewhere, training business Dale Carnegie’s Northern England team has a new business development executive.

Sophie George, a graduate in business and sociology, will help generate business for Dale Carnegie in West Yorkshire. The firm is celebrating its 100th anniversary.

And, Yorkshire law firm Dickinson Dees has expanded its charities team with the appointments of qualified solicitors Samantha Pritchard and Mark Honeywell.
