Enterprise that’s setting new trends in the leisure sector
Yorkshire businessman Chris Vaudin has created the Zone caravan, which boasts a teardrop style inspired by the fashion trends of the 1920s. Mr Vaudin has invested around £250,000 of his own money into developing Zone Leisure, after spending almost a quarter of a century specialising in commercial van conversions. Each fibre glass caravan is individually ‘fired’ in a huge oven at the AMRC on the Advanced Manufacturing Park near Rotherham.
Mr Vaudin, who owns a manufacturing base in Sherburn-in-Elmet, North Yorkshire, is also looking to expand and develop a rental fleet of vehicles in a range of sizes. The company employs between six and 10 people, depending on demand.

Since its launch in 2012, the Zone has sold 12 models, and achieved a turnover of around £130,000.
In the longer term, Mr Vaudin would like to make 300 models and turnover between £5m and £6m a year.
“We have had interest from South Africa, Iceland, Spain, Italy and France,’’ Mr Vaudin added.
If you feel like hitting the road, The Zone is on sale for around £12,995.
