Entrepreneur comes full circle with new MD Mobility store

MD Mobility has opened a new showroom in Northallerton, marking a return to the location of co-owner Alan Garner’s first retail venture in the 1980s.

The company, which Mr Garner owns alongside his wife, Carol, sells a range of mobility scooters, with TGA a major supplier to the firm.

The couple are now the owners of the 3,000 sq ft showroom in Garthway Arcade, Northallerton.

MD Mobility has another retail unit in Guisborough that has been managed by the Garners for seven years.

Mr Garner has worked in the mobility sector for more than 30 years and was responsible for setting up the first Acorn Medical mobility outlet in Northallerton 30 years ago.

This showroom was located only around 20 yards from his new MD Mobility venture.

He sold his original business after several years, but has now returned to the town to open MD Mobility.

Mr Garner said “It’s great to be back in business in my home town where I was born. Things have changed quite a lot over the years, however my approach to supporting customers will never alter.

“At one point during my career I was responsible for a network of seven regional mobility showrooms and around 30 staff.”

He added: “Choosing the right, reliable and quality products that won’t let customers down has always been paramount to me.

“It also makes good business sense both commercially and ethically.

“We cherry-pick our range extremely carefully and hence this is why we stock one of the UK’s leading brands of mobility scooters from TGA.

“Their new folding Minimo is a real cracker as it can easily fit in the boot of a car without dismantling.

“My wife and I always take pride from seeing mature and disabled people smile when they regain their freedom.

“We strongly believe that every business can be successful if they combine real customer focused service with quality pro- ducts.”
