Malcolm Myers plans to establish a call centre in Leeds that will provide advice to landlords who want to get the maximum value from their property. Mr Myers’ business, MSM Properties, has enjoyed rapid growth through referrals and recommendations since it was founded in 2007.

Mr Myers offers a “hands on approach” that enables clients to sit back and let MSM deal with the day-to-day running of the property. Mr Myers will, for example, check tenants’ references and collect rents.

Mr Myers said: “2015 has been a super year. We have increased the business by 50 per cent and we are breaking into different market areas now. We manage around 425 properties. We managed about 350 properties this time last year.

“There’s a big demand for rental properties. We’re looking now at expanding into the Wetherby area and further afield at Skipton, Otley and Ilkley.”

Mr Myers has appointed a property manager and he hopes to move into the commercial property market.

Mr Myers said: “We’re going to be contacting landlords who have got commercial properties, who may have had them a long time and struggled to get them let. We want to give them advice about how we can get that property let for them.”

MSM has established a refurbishment and renovations business, and, in 2016, Mr Myers plans to hold a series of seminars for “accidental” landlords, who may have inherited a property, and other people who are planning to enter the lettings business, but need advice about legislation and other hurdles.

Mr Myers’ family owned Sydney Green (Leeds), a clothing business that employed 100 people during its heyday in the 1970s. Mr Myers developed a passion for motor sport, and went on to compete in the Lombard RAC rally.
