Eurocare Showers moves into larger premises

A BUSINESS which manufactures accessible bathing products has moved to larger premises due to growth propelled by the UK’s ageing population.

Eurocare Showers, which is based in Doncaster, held the official opening of its new premises at Shaw Lane Industrial Estate.

At 18,000sq ft, the firm’s new manufacturing facility is double the size of its previous one in Bentley, South Yorkshire.

The extra space will allow the business to push ahead with plans to boost its exports, which include starting to sell to the United States in June. It currently exports mainly to France.

The company, which manufactures products such as low-access shower trays, half-height shower doors and walk-in baths, has seen its turnover increase to £2.5m for the year to the end of March 2012, from £1.75m the previous year – on which it made £10,000 of pre-tax profits.

It currently employs about 22 people after taking on four new staff, including three apprentices and a graduate, in the past three months.

The company recently started offering a turn-key operation from manufacturing through to installation and after-care, said Mike Holborn, managing director.

Mr Holborn, who has over 35 years’ experience in manufacturing of products for the care industry, said: “We are looking at at least another 30 to 40 per cent growth this year in terms of turnover.

“With that will come organic growth in terms of production staffing, and at a slightly different rate, growth in administration.”

The elderly population is the main market for Eurocare Showers as it produces products for people with reduced mobility.

Mr Holborn said: “It’s all around mobility and access to normal daily functions.

“Our walk-in baths are very successful as this age group was brought up bathing as opposed to showering.”

He added: “As the ageing population increases, the need for products of this nature increases too as it is a lifestyle choice.

“The elderly population is growing, but also the 80 plus sector, and this market sector is becoming more aware of the products and services which are available to assist with mobility and get through the day.”

The business supplies dealers, people who sell directly to the public, merchants, and local authorities.

The company’s new premises was officially opened by Hugh Forde, who is retail director at Age UK.

Eurocare Showers was founded in 1999 in South Wales, but re-located to Doncaster in 2001.
