Ex-Army medic explains why first aid is vital

A FORMER soldier, who now runs his own first aid training company, will be sharing his story with local businesses at November's meeting of the East Riding Business Network.

Jon Hilton, who now runs Pulse Rate Training in Hull, served in the Royal Engineers as a combat medic delivering first aid in war zones for 14 years.

After being injured in service he set out to ensure as many people as possible knew how to help out in an emergency.

Mr Hilton said: "At the time I came out of the Army, I'd been injured and my wife had cancer. There was a lot going on. But I was determined to set up a first aid training company. I don't claim to be an entrepreneur, I'm just good at what I do.

"To date, I have resuscitated 154 people, the most recent at the KC Stadium during a Hull FC match. It's such an important skill to have. My next project is to try to deliver first aid training in schools as part of the National Curriculum."
