Ex-banker joins the board of regional housebuilder

EAST Yorkshire and Lincolnshire housebuilder Beal Homes has appointed former HSBC director Wayne Bowser to its board as a non-executive director.

Richard Beal, chairman and managing director of Beal Homes, said: “Wayne brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience in the finance sector along with a considerable network.”

Having held senior positions at HSBC, including posts as North of England regional director and, latterly, deputy head of commercial banking based at Canary Wharf, Mr Bowser left HSBC in September last year. He is also on the boards of Leeds and Partners, the cancer charity Marie Curie, Yorkshire County Cricket Club and Opera North.

The Leeds office of law firm Irwin Mitchell has boosted its restructuring and recovery team with the appointment of solicitor Neil Patterson.

Mr Patterson, who joins Irwin Mitchell from drydensfairfax solicitors in Bradford, will support recently promoted partner, Doug Robertson, who specialises in providing advice to both banks and their receivers on property insolvency. Mr Patterson’s arrival at Irwin Mitchell follows news that Doug Robertson has been promoted from associate to partner.

Also in the legal sector, Ramsdens has strengthened its commercial litigation team with the appointment of a new solicitor.

Alastair Redfern joins the firm from Ozon Solicitors in Manchester and is based at Ramsdens Wakefield office.

DLA Piper has announced the promotion of 16 of its Yorkshire-based lawyers. Sheffield-based corporate specialist Rob McKie, and Leeds-based finance specialist Kirstie Allerton have both become partners. Mr McKie joined DLA Piper in 1999 as a trainee solicitor and was promoted to legal director in 2012. Prior to beginning his legal career, he worked as a tax adviser for PricewaterhouseCoopers. Ms Allerton also trained with DLA Piper, joining the firm in 2001.

There have been eight promotions across the two offices to legal director, while six lawyers have been promoted to senior associate.

Elsewhere, Yorkshire bakers and patissiers, Just Desserts, has appointed a new business development manager to support its sales growth strategy.

Rory Wallin joins the Shipley-based company from County Inns in Chester, where he was a pub manager and trainer and prior to that he held sales and area/field representative positions within the pub, club, construction and contractor sectors.
