Exhausts UK aiming for the global market

A YORKSHIRE firm which has become one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of high quality exhaust systems is gearing up to take on global markets, with a little help from the Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS).

Sheffield-based Exhausts UK plans to attend trade shows in order to win more orders in Europe. Exports only account for five per cent of its sales, but it’s anticipated this figure will increase significantly over the next few years.

Over the last year, the company has created one job, taking the current workforce to 12.

Two more staff are expected to be hired in 2013. Turnover is expected to increase by 18 per cent in the next financial year to almost £1m. The business supplies the trade and several high profile customers and also runs an active e-commerce site trading under the brand name of ‘Cobra Sport’.

Exhausts UK was established in 2004 and is run by siblings Rachel and Peter Jarvis. However, exhausts have been in their family for more than 40 years with their parents previously running Ascar Exhausts.

The company first approached MAS three years ago when it won an order to supply exhausts to Subaru UK dealerships.

Mr Jarvis said: “It was a great thrill to get the contract, but we quickly realised that we would have to gear up for an increase in production.

“The expertise provided at the time, including the implementation of a new dedicated production line for volume manufacturing, along with the introduction of 5S (a workplace organisation method) was invaluable.”
