Family firms united again

A textiles and interiors firm has acquired its former sister company to take greater control of its brand.

RE Grafton, which trades as James Brindley, has acquired James Brindley (Furnishings), a totally separate business, for an undisclosed sum.

Interior design firm James Brindley, based in Harrogate, has 40 staff and a turnover of more than 5m. James Brindley (Furnishings), a blinds and curtain outlet based in Wetherby, has a turnover of 750,000.

Both businesses were founded as soft furnishings shops in the 1960s as part of the same company. They eventually became individual businesses run by different branches of the Grafton family.

The deal was advised by Denison Till and Garbutt & Elliott, both of York. RBS Corporate Finance financed the deal.
