Fare rises help to push up profits at Ryanair

BudGET airline Ryanair reported a record-breaking 2011, flying more passengers than ever despite the tough economy and weak consumer confidence.

The airline said traffic grew five per cent from 72.7m in 2010 to more than 76.4m passengers in 2011.

In August it set a new record, flying 8.1m passengers, up six per cent on the same month in 2010.
