Farm thinks renewable with solar energy scheme

A FIRM specialising in large scale renewable energy schemes has completed a major ground-mounted solar installation at a farm near York.

The 190kW scheme, which has been installed by Harrogate-based Think Renewable Energy, has around 790 solar panels and will generate electricity for Fridlington Farms at Sutton-on-the-Forest. In recent years, large ground mounted solar schemes have become popular in the farming community, because they generate a better yield per hectare than most crops. Think’s operations director Jamie Warden said the installation would provide energy security and cost savings for the farm.

He said: “Fridlington Farms is a major energy user and the electricity generated will help reduce operating costs. It’s also increasingly the case that big name firms, keen to reduce their carbon footprint, prefer their suppliers to use green energy and this has certainly been an influencing factor here.”

Think Renewable Energy has 15 staff and is part of the Ogden Energy Group.
