“We want the Yorkshire Fastest 50 to send out a clear message, not just to the region but to the country as a whole, that Yorkshire is a place where businesses can really thrive.”

The list is being compiled by independent economic researchers using publicly available data from Companies House.

The data will then be verified before the definitive list is published in the Yorkshire Post.

Bernard Ginns, Business Editor of the Yorkshire Post, will introduce the awards ceremony in March. He said: “The Yorkshire Fastest 50 is an excellent opportunity to put the region’s business growth on the map and to celebrate all that is best about Yorkshire’s companies. As Yorkshire’s national newspaper, we believe it is vital to shout about Yorkshire’s successes to the wider world and spread the word about our resilience and capabilities.”

Ward Hadaway, which has offices in Newcastle, Manchester and Leeds, has been running a similar awards scheme for companies in the North East of England every year since 1998.

Previous winners have included Dragons’ Den TV star Duncan Bannatyne’s leisure empire, Bannatyne Fitness, and one of the country’s leading environmental services companies Eaga, now part of Carillion plc.

Jamie Martin, managing partner, said the concept has been received with “great warmth and enthusiasm” in Yorkshire.

“We hope that the 2013 awards will build even further on this solid foundation and help to champion the real movers and shakers in the Yorkshire business world and bring their achievements to a wider audience,” he added.

Ward Hadaway opened in Leeds in 2008. The office employs 40 lawyers providing a range of services.
