Fear for jobs as Hawksley collapses

STAFF at Hawksley Engineering are facing the possibility of redundancy after the firm was placed into administration due to “difficult trading conditions”.

The steel fabrication and machining company, based near Scunthorpe, which has an annual turnover of around £500,000, employs nine staff at its Gunness plant. All nine employees face redundancy if a buyer cannot be found for the company.

Joint administrators Andrew MacKenzie and Robert Maxwell, of Begbies Traynor, are seeking a buyer for the business, which specialises in offering sub-contract manufacture for a range of clients in the farming, marine and civil engineering industries.

Mr MacKenzie said: “Unfortunately, Hawksley Engineering has suffered from the devastating effects of the economic downturn and the loss of a major customer, which has resulted in the business being put into administration.”

Mr MacKenzie added that the hope is to secure a buyer for the business and its assets, which include plant and machinery as well as 3.5 acres of land and buildings in Scunthorpe.
